Any woman out there who is thinking about having an affair should see this movie first. Diane Lane is outstanding as the unfaithful wife and Richard Gere is excellent in the role of her husband. A very sexy Olivier Martinez plays the role of Ms. Lane’s lover.
Ms. Lane’s acting in this film was worthy of nominations for best actress for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award. She won the best actress awards from the National Society of Film Critics and New York Film Critics.
The love scenes between Ms. Lane and Mr. Martinez are explicit and extended. I won’t be giving anything away to say that Mr. Gere eventually discovers the affair. The real secrets of this movie are about what happens when he finds out, what actions he takes, and what happens after that.
One of the many delights of this film is the ending. It can lead to a lengthy discussion with your viewing partner. Mr. Lyne filmed five different endings and it can be fun discussing the ending that he selected. Personally, I loved his ending.
